Hi! I am Connie Tedford!
I am the President and FOUNDER of GREATER SOUTHWEST SAINT BERNARD RESCUE. This originally was created to keep so many WONDERFUL Saint Bernards from being euthanized for all of the wrong reasons. Due to my love for the breed, I could NOT sit back, and DO NOTHING!
I've been a Stockbroker for almost 25 years, and always been a dog lover, but until I was blessed with OWNING my first two Show Saint Bernards, Edison I and Edison II, I would have never found the inspiration!!!! The inspiration to want to SAVE these babies, that are so discriminated against because they're BIG, SLOBBER and SHED, I really had no clue about rescue. But, Rescue is a wonderful way to get to know and understand a BREED, and quickly! I've had over 600 Saint Bernards, and a few dozen Saint WANNA BE'S, come through my front door over the past 8 years. Thank goodness my own dogs, Edison, Lexus and Eliza are very supportive of my efforts and of sharing me with all of their waywards cousins, or this success would have never been possible!!!
We do alot of Public Relation events to show the true Saint Bernard breed, and try and break down all of the social stigma's that exist out there! . In addition, my dogs were all therapy dogs. GOD REST THEIR SOULS..................We'd go into the Nursing homes to visit people who've had to give up their own dogs and have NO VISITORS OF THEIR OWN! Everyone needs a BIG, FURRY, TEDDY BEAR to give them a hug, and well, frankly, SAINTS DO THAT QUITE WELL!!!!

I was very HONORED and thrilled to be chosen to participate in the filming by the ANIMAL PLANET for their show on Saint Bernards. They used my home, my input, my opinions about PROPER/QUALIFIED Saint Bernard ownership, and all of my dogs, to film the Saint Bernard segment of "BREED ALL ABOUT IT". It was nice that a TV show about a BREED that was created to SAVE HUMANS, now had a piece in it about how THEY ARE NOW BEING SAVED!!!!
I can't imagine having had the success, meeting all of the potential adopters, changing the understanding of the public, and breaking through all of the stereotypes, without EDISON, LEXUS and ELIZA! They WERE THE FOUNDATION OF GREATER SOUTHWEST SAINT BERNARD RESCUE and now there are new dogs that I'm training, to take their rolls. I'm simply the curator and caretaker here!
